HIROSHIMA MON AMOR

For the last few days, I've been listening to a song called Hiroshima Mon Amor by ALCATRAZZ.

This tune is without doubt a masterpiece. The beautiful melodies Yngwie Malmsteen plays on the guitar captivate me. Graham Bonett puts the song across well. If you would like, please check it on Youtube. I've been a huge fan of Yngwie for a long time. In addition, I'm particularly attached to this song, because I am Japanese.

As you know, this tune is about atomic bombs. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are clear reminders that Japan is a sole victim of nuclear weapons. The Japanese people should never forget the fact no matter what happens, forever.

Some movie fans posted images on SNS that turned the nuclear bombings into a joke. Warner Bros responded favorably to them, which raised a storm of protest.
That made me think of the following things.
The people who made the decision to drop the bombs made some excuses and got away from unfavorable facts for them.
Victims never forget it and they should never forget it. They have the responsibility to hand it down from generation to generation.
If humans would never learn from past failures, it would be the end of the world.

Maybe they didn't know that 214,000 people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki were slaughtered by the atomic bombs in 1945.
If they had known it, they wouldn't have done such stupid things half jokingly. Ignorance is vicious.
They don't know the meaning of what they did. They don't know how much they hurt the feelings of the Japanese people.

I don't think I want them to apologize for it. All I want to do is let them know the truth. I totally agree with the thought that Japan shouldn't have invaded other countries. I really don't know how I can say sorry for it. That will never happen.
However I also want them to think if they needed to drop atomic bombs on Japan. And, I would like them to stretch their imagination. What if nuclear weapons were abused in the present wars?

I fully understand that people in different positions have different viewpoints and sense of justice. But, there is a taboo against annihilating whole cities. They shouldn't have misused weapons of mass destruction like atomic bombs that killed a myriad of ordinary people in a matter of minutes.

They might not have known or taken it seriously, but that kind of joke does not amuse us. When I think of the people who died a regrettable death, my heart aches.

Everyone can be an offender and a victim, so we shouldn't avert our eyes from the unfavorable truth and suppress them. We should hand down the torch. Not to learn a lesson from past failures is unforgivable. It isn't really difficult. Just know the truth and imagine.
